FYI -- I think we found the source of the problem (which is on our cluster --
or, really, in my script).

I was previously using

mpirun -np $(($nodes*$cores)) numa_wrapper -ppn=8 /scratch/mspragu2/tmp/nek5000

If I get rid of "numa_wrapper -ppn=8" in the above, nek is running, thankfully, well!!!
