<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2 face=Arial>Hello.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I'm trying to use MPICH2 to install and run the R package Rmpi on a Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) OS, on an Intel Core i7 desktop computer.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I use R on this computer with no problem. It's 32-bit, and installed in C:\Program Files (x86). </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I followed instructions posted at <A href="http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/yu/Rmpi/windows.htm">http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/yu/Rmpi/windows.htm</A>. In particular, I did the following:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>1.) I downloaded the 32-bit version of MPICH2 1.3, and followed the installation wizard prompts. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>2) In the "Advanced System Settings" I edited the variable PATH value by adding ";C:\Program Files (x86)\MPICH2\bin" to the value. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>3) I launched wmpiconfig.exe from the Start menu, gave my administrator account name and password, clicked "Register" then "OK". When the Configurable Settings dialog box appeared I clicked "Get Settings". At this point I should get a green color on the left hosts panel, but I don't, so I am then supposed to (according to the above website instructions) type at the command prompt while logged on as the administrator the following: smpd -install -phrase behappy. ("behappy" is simply a passphrase). But I get this message:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial> OpenSCManager failed:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>"Access is denied. <error 5></FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Unable to remove the previous installation, install failed.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>The part "Unable to remove the previous installation" makes me suspect that a previous attempt I had made a mistake on had left some files that needed to be removed before I could try again. So, I did a "system restore" to a point before I had ever tried to install MPICH2. Then I repeated the above steps. But I still got exactly the same message.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I've read a posting for another person who had credential problems with Windows 7 Pro Edition, rather than Windows 7 Home Premium, but I couldn't see how I could apply it to my case. Also, chapter 9 of the Installation Guide doesn't cover this situation directly, as far as I can tell.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Any ideas would be much appreciated.</FONT></DIV>
