<html><head><style type="text/css"><!-- DIV {margin:0px;} --></style></head><body><div style="font-family:times new roman,new york,times,serif;font-size:12pt">I would like to create a ring between 2 systems running Linux: <br>-one has static global IP and it's hostname is <span style="font-weight: bold;">hostname.domain</span> , and <br>-the other is <span style="font-weight: bold;">mypc</span>, has static local IP, dynamic global IP (i'm using a router), it also has a hostname which is <span style="font-weight: bold;">mypc.otherdomain</span><br>I run the troubleshooting test in InstallGuide and the results are fine until the 'mpdcheck -f mpd.hosts -v' test run on <span style="font-weight: bold;">hostname.domain. </span>It says:<span style="font-style: italic;"><br>checking gethostbyXXX for qualified</span> <span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">mypc.otherdomain<br></span><span style="font-style: italic;">*** gethostbyname_ex failed
for host</span><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"> global_IP.ISP<br></span>I can connect from one host to another with <span style="font-weight: bold;">SSH</span> ; no error is reported when i run the same test from<span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"> </span><span style="font-weight: bold;">mypc.otherdomain.<br></span>Another problem is that my router sees my box name as <span style="font-weight: bold;">@IP120</span> rather than <span style="font-weight: bold;">box_name.<br></span>I modified <span style="font-weight: bold;">/etc/hosts</span> so that a new line contains: <span style="font-weight: bold;">local_ip</span> <span style="font-weight: bold;">box_name</span> <span style="font-weight: bold;">mypc.otherdomain</span> <span style="font-weight: bold;">@IP120</span> ; but still the same test error<br>Are there any other changes to be done in /etc/hosts ?<br>Where should i look for this issue ?<span
