[mpich-discuss] issue compiling mpich

There were two problems here: (1) the user set CPPFLAGS were overwriting
the MPICH2 internally maintained CPPFLAGS for sub-configures and (2)
configure wasn't handling spaces in the CPPFLAGS (or any precious
variable) very well. Both these have been fixed in a series of commits
(r6220-6226) on trunk.
