Lots of results; so much so that I've forgotten many details, so this
is a (somewhat) abridged report.

Two weeks ago we played Dean Bass's team, Bass Ackward.

Paul played first against Don in a 2:4. Paul won the 2nd game but
couldn't secure another win and lost the match, 1:4.

Tami played Dave in a 2:3 while Paul was playing. Tami kept Dave
snookered behind her balls for most of the first game which allowed
her to get to the 8 first. She tried sinking it once, then twice,
then three times, until finally Dave caught up and tried to sink it.
Which he did, together with the 8, for Tami's first win. Tami
struggled in the next 2 games, losing those to Dave, but got to the 8
in the final hill game. She took a shot but missed, and unfortunately
banked the cue into a pocket, giving the game and match to Dave, 1:3.

I played Fred in the third match, a 3:2. Just like the Hawks vs the
Predators, I always have a hard time against Fred, for some reason.
Fortunately, I was shooting well and won the first game, and got to
the 8 in the second, when I tried cutting it down the rail and instead
ended up banking the cue into a pocket, giving the game to Fred. In
the 3rd game, I had the lead again w/ only 1 ball left blocked behind
one of Fred's. Since he still had a lot of balls left to sink, I
decided to shoot his ball into mine, sinking mine but giving Fred
ball in hand. Unfortunately, Fred then put a good run together. With
only two balls left, he concentrated hard on where he wanted to leave
the cue on his next shot in order to finish the run-out, when
inexplicably he picked up the cue ball and placed it in that spot, I
guess thinking that he still had ball in hand. Luckily for me, that
gave me ball in hand on the 8, which I sank to win the 3rd game. The
final game was close, but I got to the 8 first again and sank it w/o
scratching, for the game and match, 3:1.

Roger played the 4th match--unfortunately for him--against Dean, a
1:8. Roger actually shot well, whenever Dean gave him the chance,
that is. The chances were few and far between, but in a couple of
games, Roger got down to only 2 or 3 balls on the table.
Unfortunately, Dean was just shooting too well and shut out Roger,
0:8.

We didn't have a 5th, so that match was left as a makeup. Instead,
Roger played the makeup against Retarded Monkeys. He played Tim in a
3:2. Well warmed up from his match against Dean, Roger had no trouble
against Tim. I forget the final score, but Roger won the match, 3:0
or 3:1.

Last week we played Nice Rack, Melanie's team, plus our two remaining
makeup matches.

Martino played first against Gene the Machine in a 3:2. Unfortunately
for Martino, the Machine was running well. Martino won the first
game, but Gene rallied to win the 2nd and then the 3rd with a nice
bank on the 8. Martino went down, 1:2.

I played next against Dave in a 3:2. I hate 3:2s as often they turn
into a 3:1... Dave was shooting well, and that's exactly what
happened when he won the first game. I got to the 8 first in the 2nd
game, but after missing, I thought the match was over when I left Dave
with a straight-on shot on the 8; luckily for me, he shot it too
softly, leaving the 8 short of the pocket and giving me ball in hand
on the 8 since nothing hit a rail. I sank the 8 to barely win the 2nd
game. After that, Dave's aim started to falter while mine got better
in subsequent games. In one, I had ball in hand w/ my last ball up
against a rail, one of Dave's right next to it on one side and the 8
on the other side, but I mananged to bank it out and sink it using two
rails. I won the 3rd and 4th games to take the match, 3:1.

Tami played Amanda in a 2:3 for the 3rd match. Tami was making some
good shots, but Amanda was shooting well too and getting to the 8
first. She shutout Tami, 0:3.

Simon played Brian in a 2:3 for the 4th match. Having just finished a
makeup match (more on that below), Simon had unfortunately used up all
his aim. Brian was shooting very well too. Both issues conspired for
a 0:3 loss for Simon.

Roger played the final match against Melanie in 3:2. Roger was
shooting well, and won the 1st and 2nd games. Ready to put the nail
in the coffin for Melanie, Roger went for an 8-ball break to open the
3rd game, and for his first time ever in a match, he sank the 8!
Unfortunately, also for his first ever in a match, he jumped the
cueball off the table on the break, which combined the 8 going down
meant an automatic loss for Roger. Fueled by her easy win in the 3rd
game, Melanie rallied in the 4th, making some tough shots, including a
tricky bank on the 8 to win the game and the match, 2:2.

So we won 1, lost 4 of the scheduled matches for the night.

Getting caught up on his pool-playing so far this session, Simon
played our 2 makeup matches. The first was against Pete of Les's team
in a 2:4 which was played while I was playing Dave and was Simon's
first match of the night. I couldn't see much of it since I was busy
w/ my match, but Simon was shooting very well, sinking balls left and
right, in corner and side pockets. Simon had no trouble with his
tough opponent and shut him out, 2:0.

For the second makeup match and his third match of the night, Simon
played Jill from Dean's team in another 2:4 changed to a 2:3 because
of the makeup penalty on us. Having just come off his tough loss
against Brian, Simon found his second wind and his aim again, and
despite good shooting by Jill, Simon was able to keep pace and pass
her, winning the first game and then the second for a 2:0 match win.

So Simon won 2 much needed matches in the makeups.
