It was close all night long.

After Brian lost his heart breaker to Anthony (a 3:5, where Brian lost
the first 4 only to rally to take the next 2 but lose the last game
and match 2:5) and you took care of Karle 2:0 in a 2:2, John C played
tough opponent Dan in 1:5. John was making shots and threatened to
take the match early on, but Dan managed to fend him off and took the
match 0:5.

Roger played next against Jim in a 3:2. Roger was shooting well,
making crazy banks on the 8, and shut Jim out, 3:0, to win his match
and take us to 2-2 on the night.

The final rubber match came down to me and Scott Peterson, a 3:3. We
were very evenly matched. My aim was off initially, but I managed to
win the first game. I lost the second but took the third. In the
fourth, I got to the 8 first, but it was right next to a corner pocket
that was blocked by Scott's last ball. I opted for a safety, leaving
the 8 between the cueball and Scott's ball, but Scott managed to bank
around the 8 and sink his ball, leaving himself with an easy shot on
the 8 which he made to take the match to hill-hill. In the final game,
Scott got out to a quick lead, running 4 or 5 of his balls initially.
I tried to catch up, but I was too far behind; Scott got to his last
ball when I still had 2 balls left on the table, sank it, and left
himself perfectly setup for the 8 which he sank too to take the game,
match and night. :( So I went down, 2:3. Sorry team!

Not a bad night overall, but we just got out played.

Among the other 1st place teams, X-Cue-Ses lost too, but Nice Rack
won. Don't know who lost between No Sweat and Get More with Les, but
we'll be facing whoever it was next week.

In other news, we got a $50 gift certificate from Q for our 1st place
finish for the Winter session (this is in addition to the cash prize
we'll get from the League), and I have another $20 gift certificate
from Q for the MVP prize. The latter we can use for a round or two of
drinks. We'll need to figure out what to do w/ the $50; either our
collective food tab, even more drinks, and/or maybe a night or two of
pool at Q over the summer.
