Results from last Fall: we ended up tied for 3rd place (not sure with
whom) which earned us $250. Great job Moe! We were struggling for a
bit mid-session, but carried on by Tami's 5 match win streak, we made
a strong finish. Let's continue the good play this session. As we've
done in the past, we'll reinvest the $250 to pay for our dues and
match fees for the current session; $250 should last us about 6 weeks.

Last week we played Retarded Monkeys (Mike McKiernan's team). We won
2 and lost 2, with the 5th game to be made up (they had 5 players, but
we only had 4). New team member Simon Granner tested at a respectable
(for our team ;) ) 21 with the new handicap scaling and proceeded to
win his first match, a 2:2 against another new player, Stan. Simon
was making good shots and should be a good addition to Moe. Paul was
our other winner, beating Ray 2:2 in a 2:4 match-up. Tami played a
close 2:2 match against Mitch but lost 0:2, and I only managed to win
1 game in my 2:3 match against David--another new player and Stan's
brother, I believe--losing 1:3.

Regarding makeup matches, given that we'll be using all 5 tables now
for scheduled matches, the league wants to discourage makeup matches
as much as possible (but not eliminate them). To that end, makeup
matches will be assessed a 1-game "penalty:" the team that had a
player available will have to win one less game in the makeup match.
If that team only had to win 1 game originally, then instead, the team
that didn't have a player will have to win an extra game. For
example, if the original matchup was a 2:2, then in the makeup match,
the team that had a player available on the match's scheduled night
would only have to win 1 game, ie, the makeup match would be 2:1. If
the matchup was originally a 4:1 where the team with the player only
had to win the 1 game, then the makeup will be a 5:1.

Tonight we have a makeup (assuming we have enough players--Martino is
eligible) which will likely be against Tim (~ -38 handicap, iirc).
Likely he'll play Martino, which would have been a 3:2 matchup
(Martino needing to win 3), but now w/ the penalty, this will be a 3:1
matchup.

See you tonight at Q!

John
