In an earlier part of life I used to service some large projectors that
used film for advertising in malls, airports etc. Philips only made the
bulbs twice a year, and they were expesnive - about $50 each in 1983.
They lasted a week.

So I dropped the voltage from 230 to 210 and the bulbs lasted a month
(I swapped them every month when I changed the film - they actually
last 6 weeks. If you want your bulbs to last, drop teh voltage by 5%.
easiest way is to use a 230/24V transformer and wire the secondary to
reduce the 230 by 24V. (sort of like an autotransformer in reverse).
Power utilities do it all the time at transmission voltages.

So if your bulbs aren't lasting - make a small transformer unit.
