[AG-TECH] NTP Questions

I've got a couple of questions related to NTP. Bear with me, this is not a
short email...

I've built my audio and video capture machines manually (i.e. not AGiB).
That means that I installed all the bits separately. That also means that my
NTP wasn't nicely configured and "just working".

Don Morton helpfully told me what should go in my file /etc/ntp.conf:

server ntp-1.accessgrid.org
driftfile /etc/ntp/drift

I restarted ntpd afterwards.

My time stayed as it was (about 10 minutes wrong!). Do I have to wait to get
into synch? Maybe, but my settings don't look right anyway. (Read on...)

I've been scooting around some of the docs about ntp and tried running
ntpq - with 'pe', 'as' and 'rv'. I got this:

---------Start output
[root at audio root]# ntpq
ntpq> pe

ntpq> quit
[root at audio root]#
---------End output

Do I have a problem?

Second question. (Is anyone still with me, I wonder...) On my other machine,
I tried installing xntp. Possibly not a smart idea, but anyway.

Here, I got a different (possibly worse because I've got 'reach=no' rather
than 'auth=no'?) output:

---------Start output
root at video etc]# /usr/sbin/ntpq
ntpq> pe
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset
disp

ntpq> as
ind assID status conf reach auth condition last_event cnt
===========================================================
  1 37636 8000 yes no
ntpq> quit
---------End output

Help would be gratefully received...

Thanks,
Mike
